Often referred to as “The Workhorse,” the J-45 is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars ever produced. Renowned for its warm, balanced voice, strong projection, and exceptional songwriting character, the J-45 has been a staple of professional musicians for generations. This early-1950s example carries all the charm, tone, and history that make vintage Gibson acoustics so highly sought after.
This J-45 delivers the classic vintage Gibson sound—dry, woody fundamentals, rich midrange warmth, clear trebles, and a powerful yet controlled low end. Condition: 8/10 – Good. Good condition for its age with several repairs and modifications. Tuning keys have been replaced, a strap button has been added to the neck heel, and a new bone nut has been installed. The guitar features a large repaired back crack that has not been cleated, a large repaired crack near the soundhole that has not been cleated, and an additional large repaired top crack that is also not cleated. An auxiliary bridge plate has been added over the original area due to a missing bridge bolt. The neck has been reset, the neck block has been reglued, and there is a repair at the neck joint on the back. Despite its repair history, the guitar remains a strong vintage player with outstanding tone.
