Allan Holdsworth worked closely with Carvin Guitars for over two years developing his signature model. They built close to a dozen prototypes to arrive at a guitar that Allan would proudly put his name on. Constructed with an alder semi-hollow body that employs a twin beam suspension that allows the top to vibrate freely, the Fat Boy can ape a tone that is more akin to a full on arch top hollow body than that of a compact solid body. Other features include a set in maple neck, ebony fingerboard with 20″ radius, quilted maple top, locking tuners and pair of Holdsworth H22 pickups. The tone is smooth and warm with a relaxed attack. With some overdrive, the tone morphs into smokey, sustain filled thrill ride that takes on a real vocal, violin-like character.
