Lovies Guitar’s is offering up an Exquisite 1984 Taylor 650 12 String Jumbo Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar in a Natural finish. Although today Taylor dreadnought 12-strings are uncommon, in the past their dreadnought and their jumbo were mainstays of this famous San Diego area company. This extremely attractive example was made while the company was located in Lemon Grove. It has held up nicely, showing a modicum of signs of normal wear including light finish marks and scuffs on body and back of neck. Its tuners are gold-plated mini-Grover Rotomatics; its headplate is matte finish overlain with a matte rosewood truss rod cover; the headplate bears a Taylor gold decal positioned somewhat below the “bit-by-beavers” style headstock end. The fingerboard is rosewood and bound in celluloid, inlaid with 9 mother of pearl dots in 7 fret positions. The pickguard is faux tortoise shell – nearly Dalmatian style – its top is bordered in 5 ply black and white, the sides in 3-ply and the back in just black. On the whole this is an extremely fine and easy player, whose sound has, due to its age and having being played over the past 27 years, matured nicely to a full-voiced and surprisingly strong baritone. This, combined with the tintinnabulation of having 12 strings makes for an instrument that can be the centerpiece of any folk or blues performance. 9.5/10!
