Lovies Guitars is offering up this 1967 Gibson EB0 4-String Bass with a Classic Faded Cherry Finish! The EB0 bass was Gibson’s top selling bass of the 60’s and 70’s. Manufactured from 1959 until 1979, it remains one of Gibson’s most recognizable instruments using the Les Paul Special ‘SG bass’ guitar shape. The first Gibson SG Guitar’s were produced at the same time. In total over 22,000 EB0 basses were manufactured. The EB0 got its name from the Gibson EB series (Electric Bass), and was a short scale bass that proved very popular in the mid to late 60’s. Long scale (EB0L) and fuzz (EB0F) versions also exist. The EB0 has a single humbucker which has a very low mellow tone. A ‘thumper’ rather than a ‘twanger’ great for sixties styled music, reggae and rock, but not a bass for slapping! This sound comes from the mahogany bodies and set necks (seventies models had maple necks), short scale (30½ inch) and the aforementioned humbucker.
Famous EB0 players include David Knights of Procol Harum, Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull and Jermaine Jackson of the Jackson Five. This Vintage instrument is in Great Shape, especially considering its over 50 years old, however, there is a fair bit of weather checking, minor finish marks and indents all over, especially the body, pickguard wear, the back has a fair bit of buckle wear, bottom edge of the body near strap button has a fair sized area where the lacquer is chipped, fair bit of hardware tarnish and some very minor chipping on the headstock edges, 7.5/10. ALL Original-NO Breaks, Cracks or Repairs. Includes an Original Hard-Shell Case and COA!!
