The Closet Classic Rosewood Telecaster gives you the feel and performance of Fender’s rounded laminated fingerboard, a fretboard design that came about in 1962 to address the problem that caused earlier slab fretboards from separated from the neck. The increased surface contact between this new contoured fretboard and the neck had the unexpected side effect of upping the Tele’s sustain dramatically. Add that to the phenomenal sustain characteristics the Closet Classic Rosewood Telecaster’s early-’60s oval-C solid-rosewood neck, and you’ll experience playing dynamics like nothing you’ve heard before.
The first thing you’ll notice after plugging in the Fender Custom Shop Closet Classic Rosewood Telecaster is that it packs way more punch than a standard Telecaster. That’s because they loaded it with a pair of Custom Shop Twisted Tele pickups. These unique Tele pickups borrow the taller-than-usual Alnico V magnets from Fender’s Jazz Bass pickups, which provide the added bobbin space for thicker gauge wire. This gives the Closet Classic Rosewood Telecaster a hotter, brighter, and punchier sound than you’ll typically get from a Tele. And if you want to roll off some of those highs (without killing your gain) just kick in the Closet Classic Rosewood Telecaster’s Greasebucket tone circuit.
