Lovies Guitars is stoked to offer up this 1961 Fender Jazz Master with a 3-Tone Sunburst Finish! Leo Fender introduced the Jazzmaster at the 1958 NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California. This annual trade show is the largest exposition of new musical gear in North America, and likely the world. Originally targeted at jazz guitarists, the Jazzmaster features large single-coil pickups, unique electronics, and a somewhat wider fingerboard than the Telecaster and Stratocaster. The offset body design is intended to make the instrument more comfortable when seated – standing up and moving around was more of a country or rock and roll thing. However, the Jazz world didn’t take to the Jazzmaster nearly as much as the Surf world did. During the late 1970’s into the 1980’s, it was adopted by British guitarists like Elvis Costello and Tom Verlaine, and has kept a presence in the rock world since then.
This guitar definitely delivers the classic Jazzmaster sound. The rhythm circuit is dark enough without being lost and the lead circuit cuts through and gives that perception of lifting the sound. The neck pickup has a nice smoothness whilst still retaining the clarity. The bridge pickup has a nice snarl to it without being too brittle. ALL Original Untouched solder joints, Unmolested Gem! This Axe is a collector’s dream guitar! In Great Shape, especially for being 60 years old, however, there is some pickguard wear, hardware tarnish, many indents, chips and marks on the body, a fair bit of buckle wear, a couple large finish chips pn the treble side edge body, a large finish chip in the center of the back, indents and marks on the neck and headstock, 8.5/10. ALL Original-NO Breaks, Cracks or Repairs. Includes an Original Hard-Shell Case and paperwork!
