Lovies Guitars is Excited to offer up this 1960 Martin 00-18G Classical Natural Acoustic Guitar! Double-O means medium-sized (14.25” at the lower bout), -18 means that is has genuine mahogany back, sides and neck, and a wonderfully oranged Sitka spruce top. And a Brazilian board, bridge and headplate overlay. Tuners were three-on-a-filigreed plate with metal capstans and ivoroid oval buttons. The style -18 has the white-black-white-black top border, the tortoise shell plastic body bindings, 12 frets to the body and 19 frets total, a black plastic end graft, a bone nut and saddle. This guitar was made on the cusp of Martin changing its mind about whether their logo should go on the front of the headstock as they did on the steel strings, or on the back of the headstock, so as to leave the head plate plain Brazilian in the tradition of classical builders.
The 00-18G model was made from 1936 (when 3 were produced) until 1962 when 76 were made. That same year, 1962, brought us the change over to 00-18C – the C for classical. How, then, does a “G” model differ from a “C?” The G had the same body as the Martin 14-fret 00-18 and it was lightly braced but shared a bracing pattern similar to the 00-18; it had no fingerboard markers, a 25.4” scale. The 00-18C has the slope-shouldered body shape. It has modified fan bracing so that the player would feel a slight breeze while playing.
