Lovies Guitars has up for grabs a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom in a Wine red Finish! This guitar is everything a great Les Paul Custom should be, with lightly figured maple beneath the transparent finish on the top and the power and sustain that only comes with a top of the line Gibson! This guitar has the typical Les Paul weight but is very well balanced, with mass that really adds to the tonal heft of the instrument. There’s a very dynamic quality to this instrument, with a clear and commanding sound that is evident even when strummed acoustically. The guitar responds instantly to changes in pick attack and is consistent with the tonal profile of the maple-necked later ’70s Les Pauls, there’s a certain snappiness and top end detail that comes from this era of production. The three-piece maple neck has a C shaped profile that starts out notably slender at the nut yet grows substantially deeper as you move up the fretboard, filling the palm nicely with a generous and chunky shape from the 9th fret and beyond. The bound ebony fretboard has pearl block inlay and original fretwire that is in great shape. The headstock sports all the hallmarks of a Les Paul Custom, with the split diamond inlay, “Custom” truss rod cover, multi-ply headstock binding, and Gibson stamped tuning machines with metal tulip buttons. This Axe is in Great Shape for being over 40 years old, however, there are many minor chips and indents on the top, the back and sides have a fair share of large finish marks and indents, the binding has many cracks, neck wear, light hardware tarnish and chips/ finish marks on the headstock.
